Collaborative Grants Eligibility & How to Apply

The Gold Foundation empowers experts, learners, and leaders to together create systems and cultures that support humanistic care for all. The Gold Humanism Honor Society has over 200 chapters with more than 48,000 members in practice, research, and education. The power of the human connection, especially amongst this robust network of compassionate doctors is something that we hope to harness at the chapter level and beyond. GHHS chapters are encouraged to connect with their peers across the United States and internationally. The conversations, creativity, and commitment to the promotion of compassionate patient care can only multiply when these connections are made. For that reason, we offer a collaborative grant of up to $2000 for 2 or more UME and/or GME chapters or 2 or more individual GHHS residents or fellows affiliated with separate institutions to partner together to create, implement, and conclude a project within 12 months of receiving grant funding.

Collaborating chapters or members may only apply for and receive one grant per calendar year but may reapply in subsequent years. The grant will be made as a multiparty agreement with the affiliated institution’s grant office. One institution will be designated as the dollar receiving grantee and the others as collaborative grantees. Please note that grant funding is limited and additional avenues to attain funding should also be considered.

If for any reason, you are unable to begin your project within the calendar year you applied for the grant, funding will not be rolled over to the following year.

Applications for the Collaborative Grant are now closed. GHHS staff will review and make a determination regarding the final awarding of the grant funding within 3-4 weeks of the close of the grant application period. [Please note that the review date is subject to change at any moment].

Eligibility Criteria:

  • GHHS membership of collaborative project leaders (trainee members including students, residents, and fellows affiliated with an institution)
  • For grants requests submitted by student members, each of your GHHS chapters must be up to date with their GHHS Chapter dues payments. If you are unsure whether your institution is up to date with their dues payments, please contact ltvito@gold-foundation.org
  • For grant requests submitted by resident and fellow GHHS members, a preference will be given to dues paying GHHS members in their 4th year of residency training and beyond. To learn more about the GHHS dues payment structure and benefits, please click here and consider enhancing your membership in the Gold Member Portal.
  • Written Institutional support to administer the grant on your behalf by the dollar receiving grantee and conduct your project from each participating Chapter.

How to apply:

  1. Sign into your Gold Member Portal account and submit a project proposal through the application form.
  2. Complete and upload the proposal section of the GHHS Activity Grant Budget template. Please see budget requirements before proceeding
  3. If students are submitting the grant proposal, a letter of support from each chapter’s advisor must accompany the application.
  4. If you are a resident/fellow submitting the grant proposal, a letter of support from each of your Program Directors or Department Chairs must accompany the application. An additional letter of support from the local GHHS Chapter Advisor will strengthen the application.

Budget requirements: Funds should be allocated to meeting the outlined project needs and ensure maximum impact. Please note that GHHS does not provide support for honoraria, speaker’s fees, gifts, monetary donations to charities, or Solidarity Week and Thank a Resident Day activities. Preference will be given to projects where no more than 25% of the budget is used for food.
