Tow Award Agreement

For a school to participate in the Tow Award Program, this agreement must be completed and signed by a dean of students or other authorized official on behalf of the medical school. If your school does not currently participate, please visit How to Apply (scroll to bottom of page).

The Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award (“Tow Award”) presented by The Arnold P. Gold Foundation ("the Gold Foundation") recognizes graduating medical students and faculty members who are exemplars of humanism in the delivery of care to patients. To participate in the Tow Awards, the Gold Foundation requires approved schools to complete this agreement. Submitting this form constitutes an official sign off on behalf of the School by the authorized representative named below.

  1. The School agrees to participate in the Tow Award.

  2. The Gold Foundation will send the digital award package in accordance with the Tow Procedures and Criteria document, and both of the following conditions must be met: a) completion of this agreement by the School's authorized representative; b) completion of the Interim Report Formwith the name, details, brief bio including humanistic qualities, and headshot of the recipient and details of the award process as per the Tow Procedures and Criteriadocument.

  3. The School agrees to select award recipients as specified in the Tow Procedures and Criteria document.

  4. The School agrees that Foundation may include information about this award, including awardees’ bios, headshots, and school information, in any public reports or press releases it may produce. The School agrees that it will recognize the Gold Foundation in any public communications or printed materials produced regarding the award and that it will provide the Gold Foundation with a copy of any public reports, articles, awards programs, photos or other published materials which are the results of the awards. Specifically, published materials, including the program, must include the full name of the award: The Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award presented by The Arnold P. Gold Foundation.

  5. The School acknowledges that the Gold Foundation reserves the right to discontinue, modify or withhold the award package to be given under this agreement if, in the Gold Foundation’s sole discretion, such action is necessary: (1) because the School has not fully complied with Tow Procedure & Criteria; (2) to protect the purpose and objectives of the award or any other charitable activities of the Foundation; or (3) to comply with any law or regulation applicable to the School, to the Foundation, or this agreement.

  6. The School agrees to have information/data from its interim and final reports or any other reporting documents available for use by the Gold Foundation for program evaluation purposes.

  7. The School agrees to comply with the following: If the Arnold P. Gold Foundation is notified of adverse disciplinary action for an honoree, or an honoree is implicated in an event or series of events of such notoriety or reproach or censure that continued membership and/or award recognition has or may have a negative impact upon the image or reputation of the Gold Foundation and/or its ability to accomplish its purposes, the Gold Foundation reserves the right to revoke the award. For all Gold Foundation awards designated by an institution (e.g. Medical School) or organization (e.g. Specialty Society) outside the Gold Foundation: if the entity that recommended bestowing the honor identifies an institutional policy violation and conducts a thorough and comprehensive investigation in accordance with their formal institutional processes and requirements, the entity can alert the Gold Foundation to the positive finding and make a recommendation to the Gold Foundation for revocation. The Gold Foundation makes the final decision on revocation.

  8. The School acknowledges that this is a renewable 3-year agreement and that annual participation will require completion of the Interim Report Form and adherence to the current Tow Procedures and Criteria document.

  9. The School acknowledges that this agreement is made directly with the School and may not be assigned by the School without the express written consent of the Gold Foundation.



This agreement has been signed by the following designated official on behalf of the School (must be a dean of students or authorized official):

We appreciate your partnership to recognize leaders in humanistic healthcare, and the respect for patients, their families, and healthcare colleagues. This agreement is in full force and effect for 3 year from the date of signing.
